Los Angeles Sign Company | The Best Sign & Banner Design Fonts

Arial Black
Arial Black is one of the most common fonts to use on a banner.
It’s plain, basic block lettering, and it’s very easy to read. If you have a
lot of words or letters to fit on a small banner, it might not work as well as…

Impact
Impact. This is a very bold block lettering font, but it is much narrower
left to right than Arial Black. It’s still one of the best fonts for banners,
but it lets you squeeze a little more information onto your banner. (See how we
were able to include the area code, even at the same font size as the Arial
Black banner?)

Cooper Black
Cooper Black is a good compromise between friendly and professional, so it
works well for a small business banner font. It’s got very big bold letters
like Arial Black, but it’s more rounded. Not everyone likes the way the numbers
are offset, though.

Arial
Arial and Times New Roman are good if you have several lines of less
important text on your banner. Try to use a bolder banner font for your
headline, then use these fonts for the less-important details. As you can see
here, Arial is a little narrow to use for headline text.

Save Times New Roman for longer paragraphs. If you are including bullets or short
phrases on your banner, Arial is usually a little easier to read because of its clean appearance.

Cancun is another very big, bold font that’s good for banner headlines. It
only allows you to type in uppercase, so reserve it for short words or phrases.
It has a tropical beachy feel that’s good for celebrations or sale banners.

Last but not least, Stencil is a great font for bold headlines. It gives a
very strong, military feel to a banner and has all capital letters like Cancun.

Three Tips for Designing an Effective Sign

What is the first thing most customers notice? Signs! Strategically placed, uniquely branded, and carefully designed signs can add traffic and revenue to your business. Effective signage can be the key to growing your business and grabbing a larger chunk of the market.

What makes an effective sign?

A sign's visibility:
The sign and message should be readable from a customary viewing distance - consider whether most of your potential clients will view the sign as a pedestrian or while traveling in a car. This will determine where a signs is placed, where on the sign the graphics and text are located, and what size your sign needs to be.

A sign's readability: Will they be able to easily view and understand your sign? The size of the graphics and text on a sign is also important. Can your customer read what is on your sign? If you don't have room for large letters you should consider using light colored letters on a dark background. This will provide a high contrast for easy viewing.

A sign's aesthetic: Is your sign pleasing to look at? Customers tend to be drawn to signs with pictures or graphics and producing a sign in full color is even more beneficial. Using a border on your sign design will help frame your message and can help provide a clear, concise message.

Burbank Sign Company | Sign & Banner Color Chart

Posted by Julie and Chris Ramirez on Wed, Dec 19, 2012 @ 06:12 AM

Different colors and fonts appeal to different personalities, and if you really want signs that attract, you'll make an effort to understand to whom what color goes with your personality. Here are the most common examples and top 3 colors used:

The Sign Studio in Burbank CA - Sign Color Chart

Red: Red is exciting and active - it suggests boldness and efficiency, and is appetite-inspiring, hence McDonald's use of red (as well as yellows and oranges). As you can see, red especially appeals to "Emulators," or people who are sales-oriented and talkative. Red implies urgency.

Blue: Blue is the most widely used color in appealing to businesspeople and entrepreneurs called "Achievers." Blue is serene, suggesting wisdom, dignity, and stability, hence the wide use of blue by banks. Men prefer blue to red and are supposed to prefer blue to red because it is more restful to the eye. Blue is businesslike.

Green: Green and other earth-tone colors appeal to the vast group called "Belongers." These people are the "middle America" people - usually employees, family people, and definitely relationship-oriented. They enjoy green, browns and golds. Earth-tones are friendly.
