Glendale Sign Company | You Can Sell Anything With Signs & Banners

Signs, Banners and Sales!

Have you considered how new customers find your business or learn of your product?  There are many types of advertising and ways to grow your business; direct mail, social media, print ads, the Internet, and word of mouth are all effective ways to find exposure.  Yet none of these outlets are as prevalent, or permanent, as well constructed, thoughtful custom signs

Signs are one of the most effective, efficient, and cost conscious forms of media available to businesses.  Signs advertise to people passing your establishment who normally may not know of your business or products.  Signs tell people what you are selling, promote your brand, and are directly focused on the trade of the business.

Signs are affordable - if you compare the cost of signs to other advertising media, a well designed, on-site sign is quite inexpensive.

Signs are for everyone - the use of signs is practical because reading signs is beneficial.  People read to remember and they retain the information on signs for future use.

Signs are on the job 24 hours a day, seven days a week - this can be considered non-stop, repeated messaging about your business, brand, and product.  Every time a customer passes your business, they see your sign; the simple message repetition will help them learn and think favorably of your business.

If you have any questions or need assistance with anything, please give us a call at The Sign Studio (818) 843-9200 or send us an e-mail at info@signstudiola.com.

lluminated Signs will Light up Your Business!

Do you need illuminated signs or a light box for your business?

What are L.E.D. Illuminated Signs?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LED technology has been in use since the 1960s. Illuminated signs can be freestanding or fixed to a building.

Some of the Benefits of LED Lighting:

  • Your business will be seen 24/7
  • Uses 12 volts, as opposed to neon, which uses up to 9,000 to 15,000 volts.
  • Comparable brightness to neon
  • LED illuminated signs last up to 100,000 hours when properly installed
  • Reduced fire hazards because of low voltage system
  • Savings of up to 80% power over traditional neon-lighted signs, resulting in a 3 year return on investment via power cost savings
  • Cleaner and simpler installation than neon
Neon has been faithfully leading the industry for illuminated signs for over a hundred years and is still a good option. Change is inevitable, however, and The Sign Studio is on the leading edge of exciting LED technology.

We’re here to help you with your signage needs! For more information about the benefits of LED Illuminated Signs, visit our blog.

Glendale & Pasadena Sign Company | Important Signs & Banners

Your sign is your best employee!

The first impression is the only impression. We’ve all heard that song before. And you can’t change that first impression even if you tried; it’s what people hear and see and remember. That’s why your signage is so important.

That’s what a sign should do. It should scream from the rooftops. It should grab your attention like a great billboard in the sky. “Here we are! Look at what we have!”

A sign can speak volumes about your company, products and services. So what you definitely want is a sign that actually speaks to the customers and says, “Hey…look at me and remember me!” You want a sign that speaks personally to each person who sees it, enticing them to come in, look around, you’re welcome here, because customer loyalty is a great value in business and when your sign is readily recognizable, long term success is almost assured.

You want signage that introduces you and shakes the hands of those passing by. Remember that a sign works and speaks for you twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days a year, absolutely making it your best employee ever!

Take a ride in your local area. Start noticing signs just where you live, and you'll realize that you can’t look anywhere without seeing one. So why not make yours stand out among the rest? Why not make your company’s first impression the lasting impression?

#Sign Company Los Angeles | Go Green! How to Recycle Old Signs

Greening Your Business: How to Recycle Old Signs

Signs are a great visual communications tool for many things: announcing a new product, promoting a sale or providing directions during a construction project. But when these timely messages are no longer useful, what can you do with the sign?

There are many ways to make your business greener by reusing and recycling old signs and signage materials. Aluminum, cardboard and most plastics can simply be put in a mixed curbside recycling container. Requirements and guidelines for curbside recycling vary from city to city, so check the guidelines for your specific area. If curbside pickup isn’t available, you can search for the nearest recycling center at Earth911.com.

Cardboard signs can be put in most curbside recycling bins. If the recycling is separated between paper, plastic and metal, cut off any plastic zip ties or metal grommets from the cardboard. Cardboard signs can also be cut up and used for garden mulch or a weed barrier under a layer of dirt.

Aluminum Signs are highly recyclable. They can simply be melted down at a recycling facility and reused. Recycling aluminum requires only five percent of the energy used to make new aluminum. It can be recycled infinitely with no loss in quality. In fact, 75 percent of all aluminum produced since 1888 is still in use today.

Most plastic signs can also be sent to a recycling facility or easily repurposed. A professionally printed sign looks best for a business establishment, but you can reuse these signs for less important personal use. Print out a Garage Sale announcement and tape it to an old plastic sign to quickly make a sturdy neighborhood announcement. They can also be easily painted with new messaging.

Vinyl banners are an excellent choice for sturdy outdoor use. However, they take time to break down in a landfill once they have served their purpose and are thrown away. Instead of throwing out a vinyl banner, consider some of the following creative uses:

  • Banners make excellent tarps for lawn maintenance or covering building materials.
  • Old banners could be donated to a school to use as a tarp for arts and crafts.
  • With a little sewing work, old banners can be made into reusable and sturdy bags for lawn clippings or laundry.
  • They can also be sewn into a weatherproof outdoor cushion or ground seat. Cut the banner into two large circles or squares, fill with layers of newspaper and sew shut.

Recycle Banners

Lobby Signs - Display Your Logo and show it off!

The lobby of your office building is an extremely important place, and you not only want it to give off a vibe of comfort and professionalism, but you also want it to help promote your business, whatever it may be. The fact is, signs are a crucial part of virtually all types of advertising, and well made ones can go a long way towards attracting people to your business. That's why it's so important that you choose the right people to design your lobby signs.

Creativity, aesthetics, and professionalism are all very important aspects of an effective sign. You know as well as I do that a plain old, boring looking black and white sign isn't going to do squat in terms of drawing interest to a business or product. If you're going to put up a lackluster sign to advertise your business, you might as well just fill that lobby space with a couch instead. When getting your sign designed, you really need to get it done by people who truly know what they're doing. Lobby signs and logo signs are a couple of the many specialties offered by The Sign Studio, where they offer a wide variety of signs that they design themselves.

Just remember, if you don't care enough about your sign to get it done by professionals, your potential customers aren't going to care about it either.

If you have any questions or need assistance with anything, please give us a call at The Sign Studio (818) 843-9200 or send us an e-mail at info@signstudiola.com.

Glendale & Pasadena Sign Co. | Traffic & Handicap Regulation Signs

Rules and Regulations for Handicap Parking Signs and Spaces that you need to know.

Don't take chances with handicap signs at your business, we make handicap signs from restrooms to parking spaces. Our signs meet the high standards required by the AMA and we know where and how high to put them!

Accessible handicap parking spaces must be positioned at the closest accessible entrance to the facility. The space has to be big enough for a vehicle, at least 96 inches wide, with additional space on either left or right that acts as an access isle and should be wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Two accessible spaces can share an access isle.

A sign with the international symbol of accessibility must be located in front of the parking space, mounted high enough to be visible at all times. Van accessible spaces are to have additional signage stating "Van-Accessible" mounted below the international symbol of accessibility. The AMA states that the letters and numbers on signs are to have a width-to-height ratio between 3:5 and a stroke-width-to-height ratio between 1:5 and 1:10. Minimum character height is 3 inches. Confused? Don't worry, we at The Sign Studio understand all of it and will supply you with signs which meet all the standards for handicap parking.

We do all handicap signs including restrooms.

Pasadena & Glendale Sign Company | ADA Family Bathroom Signs

Family Restroom Door Signs

When selecting family restroom signs, consider what message you are trying to convey to the public. Are the restrooms equipped for the entire family, ADA compliant and/or do they offer a changing station for mothers with babies?

Most family restroom signs convey simple images, often in black and white, that convey the purpose or functionality of the restroom. For example, women are depicted with a triangle shape, imagery that most people associated with a skirt, men are depicted without this added shape and a child is often holding hands between a man and a woman. If the restroom is ADA compliant, the image of an individual sitting in wheelchair is the most commonly chosen for the family restroom signs.

Beyond the basic imagery, family restroom signs are available in a variety of color backdrops; black, blue, green or even white. For lighter color signs, the imagery is often printed in black, whereas signs with a darker backdrop may offer the same imagery but in white forms for visual contrast. Family restroom signs are available in vertical and horizontal layouts, and a variety of sizes.

When selecting a sign for your business or organization, keep in mind that the sign needs to not only be easy to identify, but readable from a reasonable distance. Consider the overall size of the space as well as where the average visitor's viewpoint will be when selecting the sign's size. Ultimately, the sign's form and function should be simple, easy to understand and visible for all visitors entering the space.

Pasadena & Glendale Sign Company | Public Parking Handicap Signs

Handicap parking signs and handicap signs of all kinds........What do you need?

Everywhere you travel in the world, there is some type of regulation regarding public parking. Handicap signs and parking signs are intended to help determine where an individual is permitted to park. Handicap signs are there to determine the optimal spot for individuals with disabilities so that they will not have to travel as far to access the entrance to buildings, and more importantly, in many cases, more room to remove wheel chairs and other equipment needed to get around.Parking signs are used to help enforce policies concerning parking a vehicle in efforts to reduce confusion that can otherwise occur in public parking areas. They are also there to ensure the safety of the public. It is important that every driver understand the penalties applied when they park in areas not intended for them. This will alleviate any worries about having stiff fines levied against them or the hassle of having to pay to retrieve a towed vehicle.

Handicap signs, parking signs are some of the most often seen parking signs as drivers make their way around and through parking lots. They are usually positioned as close to the front doors of buildings as possible on a level surface, and are easily discernible from other parking signs. They typically have a blue background with a wheelchair graphic overlaid on it.

There are many other types of parking signs such as permitted parking signs, and no parking signs. Understanding the meanings as well as the penalties for violating them is critical for courteous driving.

Pasadena & Glendale Sign Co. | Interested in the history of Sign Fonts?

History of Popular Fonts Used for Signs

“What’s the best font to use on a sign?”

It’s a question that The Sign Studio team members face frequently. While there is no one perfect answer for every situation, there are some fonts that have endured through the years to become staples in visual communications, DIN 1451, Frutiger, Gill Sans and Helvetica are classic fonts that have helped countless people reach their destinations throughout the decades.

DIN 1451 isn’t a promising name for a good communicator, but it has been used since the 1930s for scientific and traffic signs. The name is an acronym for the German Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Institute for Standardization). In 1936 the German Standard Committee named DIN 1451 the official typeface for technology, administration, engineering, traffic and business. The medium version of this font was popular with graphic designers in the 1980’s and today it is frequently used for identification on vehicles and as cast metal lettering for street and building signage.

Frutiger is a typeface commissioned in 1968 by the Charles De Gaulle International Airport for new directional signs. Type designer Adrian Frutiger was told to create a modern font that had excellent visibility at various angles, sizes and distances. This highly legible font with a warm personality is a favorite in the advertising industry. In 2008 it was the fifth best-selling typeface of the Linotype foundry. It is used throughout the public transit network in Norway since the 1980s.

In 1929 Eric Gill was commissioned to produce Gill Sans for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). It was first presented in a single uppercase weight and became very popular immediately. It was the standard typeface for all LNER posters, locomotive nameplates, station signage and even the menu on the dining cars. More recently, the BBC adopted Gill Sans for its corporate typeface in 1997. The British Government formally adopted Gill Sans as its standard typeface for use in all communications and logos in 2003.

Helvetica is another classic font, so popular it even inspired its own film. The U.S. Government uses Helvetica for everything from federal tax forms to NASA’s Space Shuttle orbiter. It is also used for the U.S. television rating system. Helvetica was adopted as the official font for all of New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 1989. The Chicago Transit Authority uses Helvetica for the city’s elevated train system and Philadelphia’s SEPTA uses it exclusively for all signage.

"What is the perfect font for your sign?"

Since you asked there is really no answer to this question. It's a question we get a lot at The Sign Studio. Truly a question like that has to be answered on a case by case basis. It's like asking what is the perfect color for the outside of my house? The simple answer is white walls and black trim and shutters. There are no simple answers in life. Can you imagine driving through a neighborhood where all of the houses were decorated with white walls and black trim and shutters? Creepy right?

Now imagine that only one of those houses in that neighborhood was painted a nice tan with beige trim and a red door. That house would really stand out next to all the other houses. That's what you are looking for in a font a way to stand out amongst all the other black and white houses.

More importantly you need to find a way to stand out and get your message across concisely and as quick as possible about who you are and what you do. You only have the viewers attention for a very small amount of time before the next shiny thing grabs their attention. Here are two things that I think help when trying to consider what font to use.

What am I trying to say? Who am I trying to reach?

Say you run a bridal company. You are going to want a font that will reflect what it is you do and with its look you want it to give your name a look that will reach people. In this case it will have to have a gentle sophisticated feel to it. It's a bridal company and not a plumbing company after all. Those are two different looks. See below...

Which looks better? See the difference? It's something to think about...

We have a creative staff that wants to help you come up with the sign that fits what you have in mind by getting to know you.

Why an ADA sign ?

The Americans with Disability Act has mandated that facilities that are usable and easily accessible for persons with physical handicaps be clearly marked with an approved ADA sign.

There are many regulations that must be met to make a sign ADA approved.

For example; the sign must be a certain size, color, finish, text size and font.

The Sign Studio can help you with the fine details of making sure your ADA sign is compliant with all the restrictions.

Often a business has very few handicap accessible locations. Without proper signs the community with physical handicaps is not being properly served. It is very important that locations that meet ADA needs be properly indicated for use.

Glendale & Pasadena Sign Co. | Safety Health Regulatory Custom Signs

Regulatory Signs, Health and Safety Signs @ The Sign Studio in LA County - If you are a business owner, you understand that you must provide parking for visitors to your establishment if you are going to generate any kind of traffic at all. While most business storefronts already have some form of parking available, just taking it for granted that everyone will be able to locate a spot for them will just not be good enough. As a matter of fact there are some things that the authorities consider a must if you are going to provide proper parking for your customers. Handicap signs, regulatory signs, Health and Safety signs must all be in place or you may not just miss out on some great business, but you could even be fined a hefty sum.

Designated visitor and employee spaces are a must if you are going to be able to handle all the traffic that comes your way, and don't forget to place signs that warn violators that they may just be towed away. No one wants to injure another person for parking in a spot that is not for their use, but let's face it, if there are no parking spaces left, your customers may just go somewhere else.

Using handicap signs, regulatory signs, Health and Safety signs are just the beginning of the types of parking signs that are a necessary part of doing business these days, so make sure you have all of yours in place to accommodate the needs of your clients.

What Sign Do You Need?

Welcome to the family! Today, a growing trend is the family restroom. If you are joining in trend at your commercial building, announce it appropriately with a professional sign.

Let families know exactly where to go with family restroom signage. Choose the perfect pictograph to let your guests know who is welcome in your restrooms as well as the capacity of your bathroom facility.
One toilet? Two toilets? Specify with a family bathroom sign. All are welcome in your commercial family restroom so don't be afraid to say so with a professional posted bathroom sign. Not only are family restrooms unisex, but they often include two or more toilets, a changing table, and enough capacity for a wheelchair. Show your care and concern for families and people with disabilities at your facility.

No matter what your guests may need, let them know they are welcome at your one stop, pit stop. These bold, attractive, easy to read bathroom signs are universal and will communicate appropriately, no translations needed.

Pick the perfect color to adapt to your decor. Family restroom signs are available in Braille and can be custom made to match your needs.
