Vinyl Lettering - Also Known as RTA Lettering and Signage

Vinyl Lettering - Also Known as RTA Lettering and Signage

READY TO APPLY LETTERING -

Vinyl Letters aka RTA Lettering and Signage

If you are looking to save yourself some money and are confident in your application abilities, the following directions on how to apply your own vinyl lettering will help you to install your own signage.

1. Apply window cleaner, soapy water, or denatured alcohol to clean the surface where the lettering will be placed. Use a lint-free cloth to wipe the surface dry.

2. Use a water-soluble pencil to draw guidelines and centerlines to help align the lettering.

3. Fill a spray bottle with a mixture of water and 3 drops of liquid dish detergent.

4. Before applying, rest the lettering on a flat surface and carefully squeegee across the transfer tape that covers the bottom.

5. Find the center of the lettering and make a small mark at that point on the transfer tape.

6. With the lettering face down, peel the backing paper away from the lettering, which will remain adhered to the transfer tape.

7. Lightly spray the exposed sticky side of the lettering with the soapy water solution (if the
letters are being applied to glass and are smaller than 1" in height, do not use the spray, it could cause misalignment.) Small letters should be applied dry.

8. Place the lettering and transfer tape onto the surface, using any guidelines and centerlines you have made to help align the lettering.

9. Squeegee the lettering from the center outward toward the edges, overlapping your strokes to prevent air and water from being trapped under the lettering.

10. Leave the application tape attached to the lettering and let it dry for about one hour.

11. Remove the application tape. Put the tape back at a 180-degree angle (flat) to the surface. This will minimize the chance of the lettering being pulled up along with the tape.

Los Angeles Signs | The Care and Display of Banners and Signs

Posted by Julie and Chris Ramirez on Thu, Jan 26, 2012 @ 06:01 AM

The Care and Display of Banners and Signs

Banners and signs are an inexpensive method of advertising that is also very effective. But for these banners and signs to be effective they must be displayed properly and also they require some care especially if you want them to last for several years or more.

You will need to give some consideration to where you are going to place your banner, the size requirements, the materials that the banners or signs should be made of and how you are going to display them. Since there are many methods of display such as banner stands or banner frames or pole pockets for banners and where the signs will be attached or be standing alone.

Banners and Sign Display:

It is important that you make sure the public will actually see and read the banner.  You need the banners to be visually arranged so that they work within their surroundings.  You want them to hang so they can be seen and understood yet you also want them to be visually stimulating and sell your products or services. You can hang them directly over the merchandise which directs the customers to that location. You can display signs so they form a route that you want the customer to take from the back to the front of the store. Use them creatively too.

Extending the Life of the Advertising Medium:

Signs and banners need to be clean and look good. If they begin to look shabby you need to make sure the banners and signs look clean for a visual display.

Do you know about signs? Here are some FACTS…….

You see them every day, but how often do you stop and think about the huge role signs play in our lives? Here’s some fun and interesting facts about the marketing and visual communications pieces that help us know how to save, where to shop and when to STOP.

  • According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, black text on a yellow background has the highest visibility color combination.
  • 30 to 40 percent of a sign’s face area should be left as white-space for optimal readability.
  • Adding a border to a sign helps focus the reader’s attention so they can read it 26 percent faster.
  • Presenting information in a second color can increase a sign reader’s retention by 78 percent.
  • Neon is popular for business signs and naturally produces a red glow, but over 150 other colors can be created with the use of other substances. Most commonly, argon, phosphor, xenon, helium and mercury are used to create different colors in neon signs.
  • An on-site sign viewed by 85 percent of the retail market at an average of 10 times a month costs only $0.02 per thousand exposures.
  • A gold leaf sign will last 15 to 25 years.
  • There IS such a thing as too many signs!

Signs Los Angeles | Help Go Green: How to Recycle Old Signs

Posted by Julie and Chris Ramirez on Thu, Dec 8, 2011 @ 06:12 AM

Greening Your Business: How to Recycle Old Signs

Signs are a great visual communications tool for many things: announcing a new product, promoting a sale or providing directions during a construction project. But when these timely messages are no longer useful, what can you do with the sign?

There are many ways to make your business greener by reusing and recycling old signs and signage materials. Aluminum, cardboard and most plastics can simply be put in a mixed curbside recycling container. Requirements and guidelines for curbside recycling vary from city to city, so check the guidelines for your specific area. If curbside pickup isn’t available, you can search for the nearest recycling center at Earth911.com.

Cardboard signs can be put in most curbside recycling bins. If the recycling is separated between paper, plastic and metal, cut off any plastic zip ties or metal grommets from the cardboard. Cardboard signs can also be cut up and used for garden mulch or a weed barrier under a layer of dirt.

Aluminum Signs are highly recyclable. They can simply be melted down at a recycling facility and reused. Recycling aluminum requires only five percent of the energy used to make new aluminum. It can be recycled infinitely with no loss in quality. In fact, 75 percent of all aluminum produced since 1888 is still in use today.

Most plastic signs can also be sent to a recycling facility or easily repurposed. A professionally printed sign looks best for a business establishment, but you can reuse these signs for less important personal use. Print out a Garage Sale announcement and tape it to an old plastic sign to quickly make a sturdy neighborhood announcement. They can also be easily painted with new messaging.

Vinyl banners are an excellent choice for sturdy outdoor use. However, they take time to break down in a landfill once they have served their purpose and are thrown away. Instead of throwing out a vinyl banner, consider some of the following creative uses:

  • Banners make excellent tarps for lawn maintenance or covering building materials.
  • Old banners could be donated to a school to use as a tarp for arts and crafts.
  • With a little sewing work, old banners can be made into reusable and sturdy bags for lawn clippings or laundry.
  • They can also be sewn into a weatherproof outdoor cushion or ground seat. Cut the banner into two large circles or squares, fill with layers of newspaper and sew shut.

Signs Los Angeles | Signs and Banners = Sales!

Signs, Banners and Sales!

Have you considered how new customers find your business or learn of your product?  There are many types of advertising and ways to grow your business; direct mail, social media, print ads, the Internet, and word of mouth are all effective ways to find exposure.  Yet none of these outlets are as prevalent, or permanent, as well constructed, thoughtful custom signs.

Signs are one of the most effective, efficient, and cost conscious forms of media available to businesses.  Signs advertise to people passing your establishment who normally may not know of your business or products.  Signs tell people what you are selling, promote your brand, and are directly focused on the trade of the business.

Signs are affordable - if you compare the cost of signs to other advertising media, a well designed, on-site sign is quite inexpensive.

Signs are for everyone - the use of signs is practical because reading signs is beneficial.  People read to remember and they retain the information on signs for future use.

Signs are on the job 24 hours a day, seven days a week - this can be considered non-stop, repeated messaging about your business, brand, and product.  Every time a customer passes your business, they see your sign; the simple message repetition will help them learn and think favorably of your business.

Marketing Your Business With Signs and Banners!

No matter what your business is an economical and long lasting way to market your company is with the use of signs and banners.

With so much competition in the marketplace signs should stand out and be welcoming. Signs should give the customer an idea of what's behind the sign and hopefully what kind of experience they should be looking forward to. Signs should also catch the eye and become unforgettable. As a sign is often the first opportunity we have to market a business, we should try to get everything we want to express about our business into the sign. A great sign is probably the best investment in your company's advertising budget!

Banners are lightweight and easy to carry or ship to trade shows because they roll or can be flat packed taking up little space. Banners are a fun way to market your company or business. Because of the relative low-cost, banners can be replaced as business changes, you can always have your latest best seller on a banner. A well placed, bright and informational banner can bring a lot of business to your booth at a trade show. Banners can also be used to advertise specials or promotions.

Working with a good design team who understand your needs will enable you to create the signs and banners that will help your business grow.
